So there I am on the infield swatting away some bug that’s flying around my head when I feel what I think is an infestation of insects in my hair. I quickly shake my head and try to get the bugs out of my hair with my fingers when I suddenly realize they aren’t bugs but dirt clods I was sprayed with when I was shooting on the outside edge of the track.
I should have realized the tires were going to kick up some mud and fling it, but it was like being in front of a firing squad. After a few laps and being sprayed I decided it was best to duck behind the barricade when the cars zipped by and let the camera take the abuse. Actually the camera only sustained one small dirt clod on the lens that I wiped off quickly.
I liked that new camera angle and depending on the track will use it again. It is difficult to get an outside looking in shot without shooting through fence and Washington had a sweet spot that was safe and with a clear view.
I got to shake the hand of Chris Nutter who with a little help flipped his truck on its side at Fairbury giving me that great shot. He shook my hand and I thanked him for the well placed wreck. Now if I could just train the rest of you to keep an eye out for the camera and keep your crashes within 50 feet, I would appreciate it.
